Steve Moyer's Vision
Palm Desert’s quality of life is the envy of our region. From El Paseo to our parks, from our schools to our neighborhoods, Palm Desert balances it all.
We can come out of this recession stronger and healthier than when we entered. I support the City’s use of its “rainy day” fund to fill the financial gap. Also, the City must maintain our quality of life by being fiscally responsible and creating new opportunities and jobs.
5 Council Districts:
Our neighborhoods deserve fair and equal representation. I support each member of the City Council representing the district in which she/he resides.
Public Health and the Economy:
Public Health and the Economy are one issue. People need to be healthy in order for the economy to fully reopen. Our elected officials need to do more to ensure that everyone in Palm Desert complies with PPE and distancing guidelines and mandates so that our small businesses can safely reopen.
Cal State Palm Desert:
The time has come. I will work to create CSU Palm Desert to ensure our residents have opportunities to live, learn, work and play in this community. CSU Palm Desert is critical to strengthen local business and create good, family wage jobs for our city.
Restrict Short Term Rentals (STR’s):
STR’s bring long term problems. STR’s threaten our city’s quality of life. They reduce our local tax base, unfairly compete against local hospitality business and reduce local jobs.

About Steve Moyer
Steve Moyer was raised in Southern California. He grew up in Culver City, where he attended its public schools. When he was 12, his parents bought a small weekend home in the Desert. Throughout the following years, Steve developed a deep love for the Coachella Valley, and always dreamed of living here full-time.
He graduated from UCLA with a B.A. and UCLA Law School with a J.D. He served as a trial attorney in Los Angeles for 40 years. He began his career with the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office, and subsequently went into civil practice defending individuals and businesses who were sued in state and federal court.
Finally, in 2010 Steve reached his lifelong dream when he and his wife Joan moved full-time to Palm Desert. He currently teaches law at the California Deserts Trial Academy College of Law in Indio.
In addition to his work at the CDTA, Steve teaches a class at Learning in Retirement affiliated with College Of the Desert, and sees higher education as a crucial component to the desert economy and cultural landscape. Steve is also active as a Mediator for the Riverside County Superior Court at the Palm Springs and Riverside Courthouses.
Steve’s wife, Joan, has a small counseling business in the desert. They view small business as an important backbone to the local desert economy. Steve and Joan have two standard poodles, Sylvie and Mimi, and belong to the Standard Poodle Club and Rescue of the Desert with whom they enjoy taking part once a month in the Poodle Walk on El Paseo. In his free time, Steve also greatly enjoys cycling, and desert landscape photography and painting.
Their two adult sons, Alex and David, and daughter-in-law, Andrea, live in Los Angeles.
